    Hi Sally,

Dog restrictions mean a complete ban. The beaches with lifeguards are the usually the ones with dog bans, which includes all Tenby beaches. The nearest one to Tenby which is dog friendly and has a life guard is Freshwater West. There’s plenty of space, it’s popular with surfers and great for dogs. Dog Rover also recommends Manorbier beach, Angle Bay, Broad Haven South and Barafundle Bay for body boarding and dogs, but none of these have lifeguards. Hope you have a brilliant holiday.

    Best wishes

    Dear Dog Rover
We are visiting Tenby next week with kids who want to bodyboard and a dog who loves water. Which beach would you recommend that is lifeguarded for the kids but that the dog can also enjoy some off lead time? Also, where it says there are dog restrictions does that mean a complete ban in that area or just that dogs have to be on a lead.
    Thank you

We are staying in Tenby in June 2017 and understand that there are restrictions on the beach so can you advise me where in Tenby can let your dog off the lead to exercise please?

      Hello Sharon,

All the Tenby beaches have a dog ban in place during the summer, but Penally beach merges into Tenby South beach so that would be the nearest place for your dog to enjoy some off lead exercise. You can get to Penally beach on foot by walking West from Tenby South beach, (access by the South Beach Bar & Grill restaurant SA70 7EG) or by parking in Penally railway station and following the path to the beach. The dog ban applies to the beach area left of the restaurant as you face the sea. There are signs in situ to clarify.

Hope this helps, and hope you have a lovely holiday.

      Hi Claire,

A dog ban is in force on South beach 1st May to 30th September. You can however walk your dog on the neighbouring Penally beach all year round.

Good afternoon, I am sorry if I sound thick and if you’ve been asked this before, but we have only recently got a dog and are planning a trip to Tenby, I notice there are dog restrictions on certain beaches, does this mean no dogs at all, or are you allowed to take your dog on there on a lead? Thank you, Cara

      Hello Cara,

Dog restrictions mean no dogs allowed on or off lead. But there are still lots of beaches and walks around Pembrokeshire where you can take your dog.

      Hello Janice,

I’m sorry but Dog Rover doesn’t have details of the current parking charges, but the charging period is usually 1st April to 30th September. This is a privately run car park and is usually closed during the winter season.

      Hi Chris,

Summer car parking charges have traditionally begun on 1st April each year until 30 September, but I had heard the charging period had been extended to 1st March through to 31st October in 2015. As yet I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer from the council if this applies to all their car parks.

      Hope this helps.

      Kind regards
      Dog Rover
